Meet Sproxxy, a startup founded by Melanie Samba, aims to simplify and quantify the management of conference-related activities for companies while providing insights into the return on investment (ROI) of attending events. The platform offers a conference intelligence solution that helps brands prove the business impact of participating in conferences, sponsoring events, or speaking engagements. Sproxxy covers pre-planning, cross-department collaboration, and post-conference analysis to assess the value of attending industry events.

The idea for Sproxxy arose when Samba, with 20 years of experience in marketing and communications, found herself managing multiple executives attending numerous conferences while using Excel spreadsheets. While recognizing the need for a better way to handle conference-related information, she founded Sproxxy to create a platform that provides data, analytics, and insights about the impact of attending conferences.

Sproxxy’s platform facilitates tasks such as finding the right conferences to attend, coordinating across departments for attendance, and analyzing the post-conference value. The startup initially outsourced the development of the software and sold its first license to an agency managing 60 clients. Later, Samba brought development in-house and rebuilt the product with a team of three engineers and a product manager.

As a solo Black woman founder, Samba faced challenges in fundraising, given the overall low representation of Black startup founders in venture funding. However, she successfully secured $1.1 million in funding, with $600,000 from Ivy Ventures and $500,000 from industry angels and Techstars. Samba aims to raise a total of $1.8 million to further develop and scale Sproxxy.

The event management platform targets midsize businesses to enterprises seeking an efficient way to manage and analyze conference-related activities.
